VGHS:S2 – Week Four

Week four saw the end of shooting and the bulk of the action. We went from shoot outs in mountain passes to drift racing (in those same mountain passes but shhh!) to intense hand-to-hand fights and wirework, all within the span of days.

This was also our most challenging week, as far as action was concerned, because we moved away from the stable, controlled environment of a built set and into the chaos of on-location shooting, something we had gotten very familiar with in Season One. That experience aided us immensely as we chased sunlight to try and make our production days.

Drift sequences and some Field of Fire action was shot at El Tejon Ranch, north of Los Angeles. We faced a snowstorm, in California of all places, forcing us to improvise and shuffle around our schedule. Despite the weather delay, we still managed to shoot everything we needed to, and also managed to get in one the largest explosion we’ve ever done, as well as a car jump.

Week four was also the week we tore down the dorm rooms and replaced the set with the reimagined Grand Theft Auditorium. It’s a significant upgrade from Season One, and we had our loyal fans come in to fill in the seats and watch us shoot on the stages.

Finally, the very last day of shooting was some intense kart racing action – a new game this season. Compared to our usual days we pared down our crew and had a (relatively) relaxing time tooling around in go karts in the middle of the desert.

Now, it’s onto the lengthy post production process!
